Samsung Digimax S1000 Digital Camera delivers 10 megapixel resolution and a Samsung 3x optical zoom lens for sharp still pictures and VGA movies. With a large easy-to-read 2.5" LCD screen, USB 2.0 High-Speed connectivity, 20MB of built-in memory, a minimum ISO sensitivity of 80, shutter speeds from 8 - 1/1500 second, a fixed 4:3 aspect ratio, a maximum of 10x digital zoom and 14.4x playback zoom, and an MPEG-4 movie mode, the S1000 takes versatility to the max. Other features include multi and spot exposure metering, seven white balance modes, ten scene modes, and a five-mode built in flash. Samsung Digimax S1000 Digital Camera stores images on Secure Digital cards. The S1000 can record more than one-hour of high quality VGA (640x480) video at 30 fps when using a 256 MB memory card. "I got Samsung Digimax S1000 Digital Camera for my wife due to compact size and high megapixel count. The camera works great. Takes excellent pictures. I do have a couple minor complaints. I wish there was no internal memory on this camera with only 45MB of internal memory having this feature is pretty useless. I do not like the redeye reduction feature. This camera sends out a pre flash then the flash. Well with kids, after the first flash it is all over. It is impossible to use this feature when taking pictures of children. So, I just turn it off. Picture quality overrides all little complaints though. Its a great camera for the wife.

" I am not an expert when it comes to cameras , in fact I am more like a rookie . Samsung Digimax S1000 Digital Camera is very easy to figure out , so if your a rookie like me don't worry . I have had other cameras and the battery life for them was terrible , this one is quite the opposite . It takes two AA batteries and they actually last a very long time . I tried to run them down for an hour of continuous use , I used all the camera modes and the flash , then turned it off and left batteries in over the weekend. I turned it back on and it still had full charge !! You can use this pretty much right out of the box , simply use the auto option and start taking picture. I was a little hesitant to buy this at first , but after reading reviews of others I was convinced to at least try it and I am glad I did. This camera has a 3x optical and a 10x digital zoom . I mention this because I was unable to tell if it was 5x or 10x by looking a details on internet . Some said 5x and some said 10x . The manual says 30x total . I originally planned on buying a name brand more recognized in the camera industry . I am glad I didn't as I would have missed out on this and I can't imagine a better camera for me. One last thing , the low light picture are amazing. I don't fully understand the speed thing that other reviewers mentioned , but it really works well in low light. The picture quality is very good also. It comes with a easy to read and understand guide.

"I picked Samsung Digimax S1000 Digital Camera up before a trip to Grenada this summer. I wanted something smaller than my Minolta Z1, so that I could slip it into my pocket and go. There are much smaller cameras out there like the Elph but they come at a big premium. This camera fits comfortably enough in my pants pocket, but is a bit too bulky to slip into a shirt pocket.
I've seen some complaints about the menus on this camera, it is different than other cameras, but after spending some time with it I don't have any complaints about the menu system.

We took hundreds of pictures on our trip to Grenada, overall I was pleased with how the camera performed, usually I just used the Auto settings and I'd say 9 out of 10 shots were properly focused and exposed. I don't think the pictures were as sharp as my 3.3 megapixel Minolta Z1, at least not when viewing them at 1280 x 1024 on my CRT monitor, of course when you zoom in, the 10 megapixel S1000 is not going to be pixilated as quickly as the Z1.

The Macro mode worked well, there were plenty of tropical flowers begging for close-ups, and most shots of those shots turned out well.

Our miniDV camcorder recently stopped working so one of the most important criteria when looking for cameras was that it be able to shoot full 640x480 TV resolution video at 30 frames per second. The S1000 does a pretty good job with video, the MPEG-4 format means you can pack a lot more video onto a memory card vs. older MPEG-2 cameras and there is little loss in quality. The trade off with the higher compression MPEG-4 seems to be that it takes a lot of computing power because the batteries seems to go very fast when shooting full resolution video. When taking just pictures battery life was very good. When playing back video the audio seems to be very slightly out of sync.

A couple of other problems, we have the silver model and the coating on the grip started peeling off within a few weeks of buying the camera, maybe it was dissolved by all the suntan lotion we used on vacation but that is going to be a problem for a lot of camera users. The other issue is the cover on the lens was getting stuck, when you power up the camera the lens cover should automatically open but sometimes it needs a little help. After this started happening within three months of purchase we looked at returning it, but at that point our only option was to get a replacement from Samsung which would have the same quality issues.
Overall it does a decent job taking pictures and videos but, it seems to have some quality problems, unless you find a really good price on this one I would pass it up.

"The Samsung S1000 takes sharp and beautiful outdoor picture when there is plenty of light, particularly at ISO 80. Indoor, you might have to increase the ISO setting up to 1000 if there is not enough light to avoid blurred pictures. Although this camera does not come with advanced antishake feature, you could achieve the same effect by increasing the ISO even for outdoor pictures. The built-in color filters provide amazing shots of professional quality. Unlike most cameras with MJPEG video, you could take up 8 hrs of MPEG4 video at 640x480 30fps on the S1000. But you will need to change up to 4 sets of fully charged 2500 mAh NiMh batteries. Samsung just released a newer comparable model with 5x optical zoom and antishake feature instead of just 3x zoom and no antishake. However, Samsung Digimax S1000 Digital Camera now could be had for half the price of the S1050 which makes it a hidden gem for a 10MP camera with MPEG4 video.

"I understand what the above entry is saying, however, for under two hundred dollars one cant expect the world. I just recieved mine today and am reasonabley impressed. The digital stabilization would be nice, but it's not a must have for Samsung Digimax S1000 Digital Camera. I've taken about 100 pictures testing different things, and one out of every 7 pictures has some blurr. The biggest cause for the blur though as I've found is the ISO setting. Because this camera is capable of 1000 plus, the higher setting in the sunlight the better the picture is. At lower levels, the picture is unrecognizable, but set higher you get a crisp clean picture suitable for printing. My recomendation: If you have the money for a high end 10 Megapix then you won't be looking at this camera anyhow... However, if you have a tight budget and want a digital camera with some very nice features that can boast 10 Megapix & 1000 ISO this is a good buy. After you learn the settings and how to manipulate them (which is very easy to do) this camera is capable of taking some stunning pictures for under two hundred dollars.
