"Like the last comment, I too was lured by the offer of a 10MP Samsung NV30 camera - only to find on checking that it is the NV40 that has 10MP, whilst the NV30 has to get by with just 8MP. I agree this is not such a big deal, and am happy with the value the camera offers (see Trusted Reviews for an excellent and very recent review of the camera) at £90, so will be ordering one!
Though you might also like to check out the Casio EX-Z1080, which seems have been equally well reviewed (in some respects better, perticularly noise performance at higher ISO) and is physically more compact - a good thing if like me you're looking to buy a truly compact camera to use instead of hauling around the SLR. It's on Amazon at £119, but I do notice that Dixons have it listed at £94, though out of stock... "

"Page 4 of Quick Start Guide lists an included accessory as "Camera Status Lamp".
The item is in fact a Wrist Strap, but the error is confusing some purchasers, who are seeking an accessory lamp in the carton with the camera.
The "Camera Status Lamp" is, in fact a small LED on the back of the camera. "

"I was looking for a simple ultraportable camera for everyday shots and to tide me over until splurging on a fancier ($500-range) camera and this one fit the bill perfectly, while providing more features than I was really expecting at this price point. The image processing engine in particular is much better than I expected (photo details are still pretty good under high zoom/during post-processing). My only real complaint is that it's sometimes not immediately obvious which options are enabled/disabled in the different pre-set shooting profiles/programs, which means either a) shots sometimes coming out a little different than expected or b) having to manually check which options are enabled in the current program/profile -- though this complaint is mainly in contrast with the very simple/intuitive overall operation." "The unsung Samsungs: Hard to find many reviews, much less posted photo samples of their digicams. I have been a two-camera, repeat loyalist to the Panasonic DMC line, but broke the trend with the NV30 when I found it "best fit the bill" for a secondary, pocketable, 7-9mp size camera with top-grade optics and very affordable price point.

I needed a smaller, more "robust" camera than my DMC-LZ3 for general snapshots and photo-documentation. Although the reports & reviews of the latest generation of NV cameras indicates a marked improvement over the imaging quality of Samsung's early NV cameras of just a few years ago, I was not going to be too optimistic and think that I would be compelled to give my Panasonic a rest. There's a lot of "good" with the NV30, and a few "real disappointments."

Pros: *very pocketable, *very fast, abeit somewhat touchy, menu navigation, *pretty useful camera modes, *reasonably sharp images if ISO less than 800, and not in digital zoom realm, *solid-feeling, dense metal chassis, *the dual-use USB cable with attachable a/c plug for charging the battery

Cons: The digital zoom is more lame than what I'm familiar with, and the NV30 does not have an option to turn it off (to my knowledge.) So, you have to be careful and cognizant of when you are about to push over into the synthecic zoom range. Why is it so bad though? The NV30 does not get the correct focus lock when the shot is made. All digitally zoomed shots are a bit soft. When the camera is "searching" for the focus, you will see it actually go right past the on-target focus on the screen. Try it again, same thing. It thinks it has got it in focus, but not so. I'm not sure if this is a calibration issue with just my unit, or a commom problem throughout the serial production. But it begs of a firmware fix. Anyway, I just avoid going into digi-zoom, as I can get better results by cropping a wider shot either with the in-camera crop tool, or in post-processing.

Conclusion: All in all, the NV30 is a nifty, sleek, compact, useful, and respectably capable tool for snapshots"
